International Garden Festival
Down the garden path!
Every summer, the grounds of Chateau de Chaumont-sur-Loire play host to the International Garden Festival, France’s answer to the Chelsea Flower Show.
Beginning in 1992, the festival showcases garden design with a different theme each year. In the heart of the Loire Valley, a region famous for its mild climate, the chateau’s grounds have been designed by Jacques Wirtz and there are 26 plots of about 240 square metres.
The exhibitors are selected from hundreds of applicants from across the world. With collaborations between artists, landscape designers, architects and sculptors, the show gardens are all very different, ranging from the simplest to the most futuristic and giving visitors the opportunity to see something new and unexpected every year.
The International Garden Festival attracts over 150,000 people. A guided tour lasting approximately 75 minutes is available for selected gardens. There are also plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops to visit as well as the beautiful landscaped grounds of the chateau itself.
