Events you shouldn't miss in 2014 fr

Don't miss these big events in 2014 - it's going to another exciting year in France.

The celebration of the First World War Centenary, big sports events, exhibitions and much more. Here is a quick overview: 
 

  • 2014 – historical tourism in France - all year long
    In 2014, France is the center for to major historical events where the First World War Centenary and the 70th Anniversary of D-Day as well as the Battle of Normandy are remembered. 
  • The 500th Anniversary for Anne de Bretagne’s death - all year long
    The castles in the Loire-region commemorate one of France's most powerful queens.
  • The 150th Anniversay of Toulouse-Lautrec’s birth
  • "Klimt & Vienna, a century of gold and colours". From March 7th 2014 to January 15th 2015, Baux de Provence 
    An exhibition which takes you on a journey through 100 years of Viennese painting to the heart of the bright, colourful works of Gustav Klimt, his contemporaries and the artists he inspired
  • Re-opening of the Paris Zoo - April 12th  
    The new Zoo in Paris will be dedicated the biological diversity and present the animals in their own ecosystem.
  • Opening of the Musée Soulages in Rodez – May 24th 
    The museum, which will be the future reference platform for the discovery of modern and contemporary international art, will present more than 500 pieces of art of Soulages.
  • Re-opening of the Musée Picasso in Paris - June
    The museum, situated in the Hôtel Salé, re-opens after 5 years of renovation.
  • Opening of The Little Prince Parc in Alsace - Summer
    This is the first parc dedicated the universe of The Little Prince. The parc is situated in Ungersheim close to Mulhouse.
  • Alltech FEI Worldtech Equestrian Games 2014. From August 23rd to September 7th 
    Held every 4 years, alternating with the Olympic Games, the World Equestrian Games are the biggest equestrian event in the world.
  • "The Mayas – 3 000 years of civilization" in Paris. From September 30th to February 8th 2015
    This exhibition gathers more than 100 works of Mexican and Southamerican cultural institutions.
  • Opening og the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris – September-October 
    New art museum and cultural center situated in the Western part of Paris presenting a collection of modern art as well as changing exhibitions. 
  • "Niki de Saint Phalle" in Paris - from October 8th to January 18th 2015 
    Grand Palais dedicates a retrospective exhibition to this unusual artist best known for her voluptous "girls" in bright colours.
  • 10th edition of the transatlantic regetta Route du Rhum – October 25th to November 2nd
    The world famous transatlantic regatta held every 4th year. The race begins at the port of Saint-Malo in Bretagne and ends in Point-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe.
  • "Jeff Koons" in Paris - from November 26th to April 27th 2015
    The Pompidou centre organizes this first European retrospective exhibition for the modern artist Jeff Koons
